William had asked Mr. Bingley to come to his office; he wanted to talk to him without interruption. Also, he did not wish Charles to have any excuse for changing the topic of the conversation as he always did when others were present.

"Dalton, next time, it would be much better if we met at the club or your house. Your cook prepares the best stews in all of England."
